Derek Allan

Derek Allan

Clubs played for: Ayr United, Southampton, Brighton & Hove Albion, Kingstonian, Queen of the South, Dumbarton (1992-2005)

Born: 1974

Birthplace: Irvine, Scotland

Position: Defender

Biography: Allan was touted by Saints manager Ian Branfoot as a 'star of the future'. A series of niggling injuries restricted the centre back to only a solitary Premier League appearance - against Manchester City in 1993. He would make more of a name for himself during his time at south coast rivals Brighton and retired at the relatively young age of 30 having made 80 appearances for the Seagulls. Allan dropped down into the non league game and worked part-time for a stationery company. He returned to Scotland and took up coaching at former club Ayr.
