A broken leg at the start of 1968- 1969 season against Manchester City at Maine Road signalled the beginning of the end of his career at the club but it wasn't until 1972 that he was sold to Luton Town for £30,000. Aston, John John Aston, I was at Wembley in 1968 and I thought you played absolutely brilliant. The speed and ball control you showed that day was the best. I’ve told everyone that you was the best on the pitch that day. Many congrats to you.
