Biography: Moved to Scotland as a youngster but played for Wales. Was captain of Middlesbrough when he moved to Stamford Bridge but never played a first team game after aggravated an injury he suffered the previous season. Worked as a commercial traveller for a firm of office suppliers but was killed during WW1 when the submarine he was serving on was lost at sea.

Atherton, Robert I'm researching the life of Robert Atherton who was born in the same village as myself - BETHESDA, GWYNEDD, NORTH WALES. Following his departure from Chelsea I was told that he was a hotel manager at Hartlepool. You're info on him being acommercial traveller is new on me. Can you confirm please.
