Biography: Defender. born in Munich, West Germany in 1972. Having shone for Bayern in the Bundesliga, a £5 million move to Manchester United was lined up but never concluded. This allowed Gerard Holulier and Liverpool to secure his signature in 2000. Was a member of the 2000-1 triple winning squad but a nervous system disorder meant that he could not play for over a year after that. Upon recovery, he had a spell with Blackburn Rovers, but then went back home to play for VfB Stuttgart (where he became Assistant Manager), and Hertha Berlin. The former West German international was sacked from his post as coach in December 2011 when he announced that he did not intend to stay with the club beyond the end of the season.
