Boersma, Phil Worked at Otis Elevator when Phil joined as a apprentice fitter. He was with Liverpool and trying to progress but was too slow and not fit enough. I took him to Kirkby Stadium to improve his fitness. Not long after improving his fitness he signed for LFC. I believe if I recall his first car was a Beetle with his £500 signing on fee. Would be nice to hear from Phil.

Boersma, Phil The goal Jim refers to was against Stoke City - remember it well. I once spoke to Phil about it in the Black Bull in Walton Vale (it was his dad’s local) and he said it was the best goal he scored in his career.

Jim Rawsthorn Phil Boersma scored possibly the most exciting goal I have seen at Anfield in 60 years running the length of the pitch towards the Kop goal hurdling tackles from the left, tackles from the right. Each cheer got louder and turned into a roar as he hurdled the final tackle and buried the ball in the Kop net.
