In his four years at Villa, he was part of the team that won consecutive First Division titles in 1898/99 and 1899/00, becoming the English game’s early powerhouses. Bowman moved to Southampton and played in the 1902 FA Cup final before he joined fierce rivals Portsmouth. He finished his playing career with works side Eastleigh Athletic in 1912. Although Bowman never received international recognition, he represented the Anglo-Scots in 1902 and 1903. He remained on the south coast until his death in Southampton in 1958 aged 84.
