Burrows, David I taught at Alexandra High School, Tipton, where David was a pupil. I stood behind him once in the dinner queue. He was in Year 10 and his year group had been out on work experience. I asked him where he had been, he responded, to such and such a garage. What did you do there? I worked with old Fred (not his real name). And what did he teach you, how to turn the clocks back? David’s instant response was “how did you know?”

To see one of out former pupils reaching the top of his profession gave me and I’m sure many of my teaching colleagues a lot of pleasure and pride.
