Biography: Byrne joined United at the age of 20, went on to captain the 'Busby Babes' and to win 33 England caps, before he and his team mates were struck down in the Munich air disaster of 1958. He had already won three League titles and at 28, he had the best years of his career ahead of him but is still remembered today as one of United's greatest ever captains because of his ability to inspire and lead his players. Amazingly, during his national service in the RAF, he wasn't considered to be good enough to play for the football team and ended up playing rugby. Roger's funeral was held in Flixton parish church and his body was cremated.
