Paul Cahill

Birthplace: Liverpool

Position: Defender

Biography: A Liverpool lad who played most of his League football while at Pompey. Ended his playing days in the USA, where he appeared for California Surf and San Jose Earthquakes. During his time at Fratton Park he battled gamely in a poor side, was named Player of the Year in 1976 and the following season became the club's youngest ever captain at the age of 21. After football he stayed in Santa Ana, where he owned a fresh foods business serving the Orange County area. As his health declined he moved back to Liverpool to be closer to his family and died on 6th June 2021, at the age of 65. Alan Knight remembers '“I stayed in digs with Paul in Copnor when I first came to the club as a teenager and he was always very encouraging".
