Biography: A United fan since his childhood in Belfast, Mal achieved his dream move when he joined the Reds from Luton Town for £650,000 in 1988. He started off in central defence alongside Steve Bruce but then moved to full back after the signing of Gary Pallister. He proved his worth by providing experience and a calm head for the emerging youngsters around him. Moved back south after four years to join Chelsea for £150,000 in 1992. Later returned to his native Northern Ireland where he has worked for the Irish FA in a number of development roles since 2000.
