Biography: There aren't many footballers who have had to endure what Ray Drake did as a youngster. however, his courage and determination saw him play for the side he supported as a boy, after meningitis suffered at the age of three left him totally deaf in one ear and with only 30% hearing in the other. Although predominantly a reserve team player, Ray had an incredible goal scoring record, when he left Edgeley Park he had scored a 234 goals from 201 games, including 19 in 23 first team appearances. After many years working for bookmaking firm, he retired in February 1992, living a stones throw away from the club.

Drake, Ray I was a young boy when I saw Ray score a goal 7 seconds from the opening kickoff against Accrington. Good player full of energy and strength.
