Biography: Only played 11 games after the Second World War but had been a regular in the side during the hostilities. He remembers making his debut surrounded by a host of famous names who had been recruited as guest players. Later played for Notts County, alongside Tommy Lawton and ended at non- league Biggleswade Town where he became player-manager. Upon his return to the south coast, Fred took a job as Trainee Manager for Brickwoods in Marmion Road, Southsea, and then managed an outlet in Lee-on the-Solent. Retired and lived in the Portsmouth area, where he was involved with and regularly attended functions organised by the ex-pros association. Thanks very much to Mark Walker for the photo.
