Position: Centre-back

Biography: Came through the ranks with the likes of Mark Hughes and Norman Whiteside, he was a useful back-up utility defender but he was troubled by a number of injuries. He made his debut in a League Cup tie against Burnley in 1984 and his last appearance came against Coventry City four years later before he was forced to retire at the age of 25 after starting to suffer blinding headaches. In 2000, Garton and his family relocated to San Diego where he runs the Carmel Valley Manchester youth soccer club.

Garton, Billy I was on the Man Utd stewards football team and Billy asked if we would steward his testimonial at the Willows Rugby ground We were invited in for the meal afterwards. Billy was very emotional when we said our good byes, very nice guy.
