Biography: Gowling turned down a place at Cambridge University to continue his football career at Old Trafford. He was likely to have achieved had he not been competing for a place in the front line with the likes of Best, Law and Charlton. A regular goal scorer for the reserves, he scored on his league debut against Stoke but it wasn't until 1970-1971 that he became a first team regular. He scored four goals in a game against Southampton but despite being converted into a midfielder, he was sold to Huddersfield Town for £60,000. Is the general manager of a chemicals company in Buxton and has been a pundit for BBC Manchester.
