Biography: Was promoted to the first team after scoring 10 goals in 7 games for the reserves after rejecting a move to Accrington Stanley. His contribution helped United climb away from the foot of the First Division table, finishing as leading scorer in 1938-1939 with 12 goals in 27 games. In the first season after the war, he was part of the United set up that finished runners up but then failed to hold down a regular place. He continued to live in his native Manchester until his death in January 2002.
