Tommy Harmer

Birthplace: Hackney

Position: Inside-forward

Biography: Was signed at the age of 34 to help bring on the younger players. Needed a cigarette before every game to calm his nerves but was still a quality performer despite the aging legs. Scored a vital goal at Sunderland in the 1962-63 promotion winning season and stayed on at the club as a youth coach until 1967. Later worked as a warehouse man in Hatton Garden and then as a messenger for an Israeli bank in the West End. Died in December 2007 aged 79.

Harmer, Tommy I played with Tommy 61/62, we went on a training run through Cassio Park. Tommy was at the back with a
Fag on. What a player though. RIP Tommy.
