Biography: Signed by United for £6.9 million in July 2004 from PSG, and immediately established himself as first choice Left-back becoming popular with fans. He was voted Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year in his first season at Old Trafford. He won a Premier League winner's medal in 2006-2007 but lost his place to Patrice Evra following injury. Liverpool had a £8 million bid rejected before he became the third United star after David Beckham and Ruud van Nistelrooy, to sign for Real Madrid in August 2007 for £8 million. In July 2009, he moved back to France to join Marseille for an undisclosed fee.
