Herriot, Jim I was in the crowd at East End Park to see Jim Herriot play his first game for Dunfermline Athletic.
As an amateur leagues keeper myself, l was amazed to find Jim standing near the front of the penalty box almost 15 yards from his goal posts. This was his usual spot for many games. He was effectively playing as a sweeper ~ a technique now in regular use by many keepers today.

Herriot, Jim Jim was sitting in the stands at Birmingham City about 1968. At half time, I asked for an autograph, sat and chatted. What a gentleman. I think I was 12 meeting a hero. Thanks Jim.

Herriot, Jim Jim played with Lanarkshire Junior team, Douglasdale. He was transferred to Dunfermline Athletic for the sum of 80 pounds in 1958. He was transferred in 1965 to Birmingham City for £18,000.

Herriot, Jim Can anyone confirm whether my memory is accurate about an incident regarding Jim Herriot? It involves Jim in the Scotland goal seeing a high ball coming in towards his goal,Jim steps aside,the ball hits the bar,bounces on the goal-line and Jim,cool as you like,collects the ball and kicks it up the park!That is my honest memory of a remarkable incident,can anyone confirm whether (or not!)my memory is accurate?

Herriot, Jim Jim put mud under his eyes because he said that it stopped the glare of the floodlights blinding him! I think it all started when the incident with the ball hitting the crossbar because he lost sight of it in the floodlights
Herriot, Jim As a yougster watching jim in goal for the blues a routine he had would be to rub his hands into the st.andrews turf and then rub hie eyes?I dont know if this was a superstition of Jims,or maybe my eyes where playing tricks on me.Can anyone else confirm this ritual?
