Biography: Scottish international 'Big Jim' was sent off twice in his first nine games for United following his arrival from Shrewsbury Town in an £80,000 deal. He did much to help the club avoid relegation in his first season at Old Trafford only for the trap door to open beneath them 12 months later. He rose to colt hero status and was voted Player of the Year and then had to endure two broken legs during his stay, the first coming midway through the Second Division promotion campaign, a second in his comeback for the reserves forcing his departure in 1976. Ran the Old Stag pub in Coventry until his sudden death in 1993.
