Eddie Howe

Clubs played for: Bournemouth, Portsmouth, Swindon Town (1994-2007)

Born: 1977

Birthplace: Amersham

Position: Defender

Biography: Before becoming the youngest manager in the league with AFC Bournemouth, Howe had been a player with the club for most of his professional career. The only break was an injury spoilt spell at Fratton Park. He had become Harry Redknapp's first signing in 2002 but the former England Under 21 international incurred damage to one of his knees in an early game and never managed to establish himself back in the side. In 2004 after an appeal from their Chairman, Bournemouth fans pledged a total of £13,500 to pay for his transfer back to Dean Court. Two years later, at the age of 29, he was promoted to player- coach by Kevin Bond but lost his job when Bond was sacked in September 2008. New boss Jimmy Quinn asked him to return to look after the Youth Team but his staff member became his replacement in January 2009.
