Biography: A midfield maestro who joined the fold from West Ham in 1989 in a controversial £2.4 million deal that still rankles with West Ham fans to this day. The 'guvnor's' aggressive style earned him rave reviews and he was very much the driving force behind United winning back-to-back Premier League titles. He also played in two FA Cup Final wins and a Cup Winners Cup victory. Unfortunately it was rumoured that all was not well in the dressing room and he was eventually sold on to Inter Milan for £7 million in 1995, much to the surprise of many supporters. After leaving Swindon Town in 2006, where he was a player coach, he joined Macclesfield Town as player manager before retiring from playing and leaving the club a year later. He has since managed Blackburn Rovers and has had two separate spells in charge of Milton Keynes Dons, his second spell ending in resignation at the end of the 2009-2010 season.
