Jenkins, Thomas So glad to be able to add a comment. In 1969 when I was 16 we used to watch Reading FC at Elm Park. This winger arrived from Margate for £500. From the start it was clear that he was something special. His skill, ball control and balance was astounding. I will never forget the time he beat three defenders and then took the ball back to the halfway line and beat them all again before putting in the perfect cross. We were on the floor with astonishment. Too good for anyone let alone Reading he was sold to Southampton for £60000. I wrote a letter of complaint to the Reading Chairman and never went again. He was that good. I believe he scored a wonder goal for Southampton against West Ham in 1970.
At that time skillful players were not protected and many were kicked out of the game. It would be nice if Tommy or someone who knows him sees this as it was a real privilege to watch him play.
