Biography: The Legend' will go down in Pompey history as not only one of the best goalkeepers to have played for the club but also one of it's most loyal servants. Over 20 plus years he played over 800 games and broke Peter Bonetti's record for the number of appearances by a goalkeeper for one club. After signing professional terms on his sixteenth birthday, the great shot-stopper had to wait patiently as Peter Mellor's understudy before being given a decent run in the first team. When his chance finally came in the early eighties he shone and never let the jersey go again until his retirement in 1980. As well as winning a place in the hearts of Pompey fans of all ages, Knightsie also gained two Under 21 caps with England, an honourary degree from Portsmouth University, and an MBE for his services to football in the 2001 New Years Honours List. He stayed on at Fratton Park as goalkeeping coach and has since helped keepers in America, Havant, Dorchester, Bournemouth. In December 2009, he agreed to join fellow Pompey old boy Kevin Dillon at League Two side Aldershot Town and is now their goalkeeping coach . Player of the season in 1982, 1995, and 1996.
