Biography: Spotted by United chief scout Joe Armstrong, he arrived at Old Trafford from his native Scotland as a 15 year old. The Scottish school boy international was converted into a full back, he made his debut as a sub against Burnley and a month later in October 1967, he made his first start against Nottingham Forest in place of Tony Dunne. But with chances limited, he was sold to Blackburn Rovers for £25,000 just before his 20th birthday. He had a spell on the coaching staff of Dundee United where he is regarded as a club legend, and he was also assistant manager of both Arbroath and Forfar where his son Scott played. He ran a business before becoming sales manager for a radio station, and now lives in Angus.
