Mahoney, John John Mahoney grew up in Salford where his parents had a corner shop selling groceries. We lived opposite the shop. My Dad was a good friend of John’s father Joe Mahoney who had just retired from Dewsbury RFC. John played with me and the other boys - football in the winter and cricket in the summer, with goals on the blank wall of Bell St and the nearest lamp post as cricket stumps. Happy days and simple pleasures.

Mahoney, John It is rumoured that Crewe Alexandra bought their ground from British Rail with the John Mahoney transfer fee from Stoke City.

Mahoney, John Grew upon the 60’s with john in Brooklands, Cheshire. A group of us, Rod Whitam Pete Howe, Les Jennings, John Topalian played scrub soccer and the irony was we wouldn’t let John Mahoney play anywhere but in goal. We didn’t think he was good enough…lol. I moved to Canada on October 15th 1967, a week before John got his first cap for Wales!

Mahoney, John Remember seeing John play for Ashton Utd 1965 season what a player. He used to have a St Christopher cross or chain over his shirt when playing. He was a school friend of my brother in law Mike Delaney ex captain of Ashton R U F C. We have a team photo of John at Ashton Utd 1965 season.
