Alan Mayes

Alan Mayes

Clubs played for: QPR, Watford, Northampton (loan), Chelsea, Swindon Town, Carlisle Utd, Newport County (loan), Blackpool (1971-1987)

Born: 1953

Birthplace: Edmonton, London

Position: Striker

Biography: Arrived at Stamford Bridge for £200,000 in December 1980 with a reputation in the lower divisions for being a free scorer. This is exactly what was needed to breath some much needed life into a faltering promotion campaign, but he couldn't flourish in a side that was low on confidence and being the small side he was never going to produce his best form on a constant supply of high balls. In the end, was allowed to leave on a free transfer as John Neal looked to offload players to rebuild the side. Worked in the commercial department at Wycombe Wanderers, then became sales manager for the Cavendish Group. Is still working in the hospitality business, but now for Ambro Events.
