Position: Centre-half

Biography: A no nonsense defender who joined Saints from Newcastle in 1968, after playing he moved into management changing the fortunes of both Chester and Preston, he brought through Lee Dixon for Chester. After leaving Halifax he became a successfulÐafter dinner speakerÓ sadly died aged just 60 on Christmas day 1998

McGrath, John Great (HUGE) player. Saw him in a tailor's shop in Bury. He couldn't walk through the door without turning and bending. Lovely bloke. Built like a brick .........
