Biography: A Manchester born lad who looked to be on the verge of a long and successful career until he broke his leg at the age of 22. He made his debut as a 17 year old, he qualified for a League Championship medal in his first season. He missed the Munich air crash because of cartilage problems. He was playing the football of his life when he badly broke a leg in a Central League game at Old Trafford but despite a comeback attempt, he was unable to play again. Wilf stayed at Old Trafford initially as a youth team coach, then later as a reserve team coach and briefly even became manager. Coached and scouted for Everton,York, Hull, Bury and the England youth team as well as United. Now lives in Timperley and is a popular speaker on the after dinner circuit.
