Biography: Spent a colourful year at Fratton Park during which time he received numerous bookings, was sent off, and then suspended for an incident which involved sitting on the bonnet of a car and removing an umbrella from a local pub. The club managed to sell him back to Bury for the same £15,000 that they had previously paid. Played for Halifax Town and later became a match summariser for local radio whilst also working in engineering. He tells a great story about when living at home in Scotland, his mother almost fainted when she answered the door to her favourite all time player, Ian St John, who was managing Motherwell at the time and wanted to sign her son!

McIlwraith, Jimmy I did the SFA coaches course at Largs with Jim, he was sent their by the then Motherwell manager Willie McLean as part of his pre Season training. He had a few strong words with McLean and the next thing I heard was that he was off to Bury. The 'well fans used to call him Netzer after German super star Gunter Netzer.
