Biography: More than a few eyebrows were raised when McNichol became Ted Drake's first signing for the club. He joined for £15,000 from Brighton in August 1952 and was a 27 year-old who had played all of his football in the Third Division. Against the odds, it proved to be a very shrewd investment as he made the step up in class with a minimum amount of fuss, only missing six games in his first three seasons at the club. His partnership with Roy Bentley was integral in the 1955 Championship winning success, before moving onto Crystal Palace. Owned a newsagent's shop and worked in the fundraising departments of Crystal Palace and Brighton & Hove Albion before retiring to Saltdean near Brighton.

McNICHOL, John My late Dad always told me that John McNichol was the best footballer ever to come out of Kilmarnock. Ron Greenwood said he could pass the ball to any area of the park.
