Birthplace: Barrow-in-Furness

Position: Forward

Biography: Signed by United just before his 21st birthday but had to spend the whole of his first season at Old Trafford playing in the reserves. Switching to centre forward saw him score 16 goals in 1925-1926, when the club returned to the First Division. Then the following season, he managed 16 goals. After six years at the club and following a brief spell with Manchester Central, he was sold to Watford for £850, proving to be a huge success at Vicarage Road. At the time of his sudden death in Davyholme, in March 1953, he was the licensee of the Greaves Arms Hotel in Oldham.
