Birthplace: Rangoon, Burma

Position: Outside-forward

Biography: Born in Rangoon while his father was serving there in the army, Mitten proved himself to be an adept winger and goal scorer, once scoring three penalties in a match against Aston Villa. A FA Cup winner in 1948, two years later he was tempted to take the fortune offered by a Columbian club earning him his nickname the "Bogota Bandit". However, he was back at Old Trafford within a year despite being offered more money by Real Madrid. He was banned for six months by Sir Matt Busby, transfer listed and promptly sold to Fulham. He managed Mansfield and Newcastle United before becoming the manager of the White City Greyhound Stadium in Manchester. He later ran a sports promotions firm. He lived in Stockport in his retirement and died in January 2002, two weeks short of his 81st birthday.
