Clubs played for: Forest Swifts, Freemantle, Southampton, Manchester United (1898-1912)
Born: 1879
Birthplace: Southampton
Position: Goalkeeper
Biography: Spent his first season at the club in the reserves and seemed to suffer from nerves when given a chance to impress on the big stage, but that all changed when he saved a penalty against Burslem (Port Vale). For the next seven seasons, he was first choice goalkeeper in a golden era which bought the club two League titles and a FA Cup. Despite the success, he couldn't ever break into the England side. He had worked as a fitter before turning professional but worked as a commercial agent after his playing days. He died in June 1927, aged only 47.
