Albert Mundy

Albert Mundy

Clubs played for: Gosport Borough, Portsmouth, Brighton & Hove Albion , Aldershot, Guildford City, Gosport Borough (1950-1960)

Born: 1926

Birthplace: Gosport

Position: Inside-forward/Centre-forward

Biography: The scouts started to watch this slightly built forward while he was working for a timber merchant and turning out for Gosport County. Albert was offered a trial at Fratton Park and signed an amateur contract in 1951. Competition for places with the likes of Duggie Reid and Ike Clarke meant that his opportunities were fairly limited. It took a move to Brighton in 1953 before his career really took off. He managed to bag 87 goals in 166 matches while at the Goldstone Ground. His name can also be found in the record books to testify that he scored one of the fastest goals (6 seconds) for his last club, Aldershot. He returned to Gosport in 1960 to become their player/manager and later drove lorries for fellow ex-Pompey player Dennis Edwards, who ran a refrigerated food business in the city.
