Roy Pack

Clubs played for: Arsenal, Portsmouth, Cape Town City, Oxford United (1962-1970)

Born: 1946

Birthplace: Stoke Newington

Position: Full-back

Biography: London born Pack was spotted by Arsenal as a youngster and did make one appearance for the Gunners' first team. George Smith brought him to Fratton Park as a 19 year old with potential and the right back berth became his own for the next three seasons. An injury sustained in an FA Cup tie against Fulham ended his run and he was forced to retire from the game. In recent years he has been investigating corruption in football. Following the death of former West Brom and England Striker Jeff Astle, Roy as Compliance Officer with a group called ExPro lobbied the government in the hope that they might agree that injuries sustained during a career in soccer should be treated the same way as other industries that pay our pensions for industrial disease. He claimed to have built up a dossier on 600 players who had suffered brain damage, Alzheimers or dementia as a result of playing the sport.

Pack, Roy I played with Roy and played under him when he coached Manly Warringah soccer club in the State league in Australia. We were good friends for many years until he left Sydney to open soccer clinics.
