Biography: Salford born striker who played as an amateur before the war, then starred in the early Busby sides as a professional. Was one of several promising youngsters who helped United win promotion from the Second Division in his debut season, he lost six years to the war but his hat trick helped United into the 1948 FA Cup Final. He then scored a fine goal in the 4-2 win over Blackpool. He only missed 13 games in 7 seasons after the war and won eight England international caps and scored five goals for his country. Pearson eventually lost his place to Jackie Blanchflower after winning the League Championship in 1952, and was sold to Bury for £4,500. He also played for Chester City and managed the club from 1959 to1961. He later took on a newsagency in Prestbury becoming a sub postmaster. He died in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, in February 1997, aged 78.
