Biography: Born in India, Reg Pickett was brought up in the Reading area and had resisted an offer to join Dumfermline while the family were stationed in Scotland to join Weymouth in the Western League. It was during this time that he came to Pompey's attention and resulted in a £750 transfer to the current First Division champions. His preferred position was wing- half but during his eight years at the club, he played in almost every outfield position. In 1957 he joined Ipswich Town who were managed by Alf Ramsey at the time and as captain of the Suffolk club, led them to the Second Division Championship in 1961. After a couple of years playing non-league football Reg returned to the Portsmouth area and worked at the dockyard until his retirement at the age of 60. He then moved over to the Isle of Wight to live in St Helens.
