Karel Poborsky

Clubs played for: SK Ceske Budejovice, Viktoria Ziztov, Slavia Prague, Manchester United, Benfica, Lazio, Sparta Prague (1991-2008)

Born: 1972

Birthplace: Czechoslovakia

Position: Winger

Biography: Was only at Old Trafford for a season and a half because his time at the club coincided with the emergence of a youngster called David Beckham. He was signed for £3.5 million after a worldwide search by Sir Alex Ferguson, who had been looking to replace Andrei Kanchelskis. He was dubbed the Czech Express but was allowed to join Benfica as he struggled to adjust to life in the Premier League. Following his spell in Portugal, he went on to play for Lazio in Italy and then returned home to spend three years playing for Sparta Prague. He ended career in 2007 back at SK Dynamo, the club where had started some sixteen years before. Poborsky is currently working as a technical leader for the Czech Republic international team.
