Biography: Signed as a professional in November 1946 but had to wait almost four years for Sir Matt Busby to give him his debut. John Aston was pressed into action as a forward for the visit of Sheffield Wednesday in October, giving him his long awaited chance. He looked to have become a regular starter in the 1951-1952 season when he started the first 18 games, enough to give him a League winner's medal. But he lost his place to Roger Byrne. In June 1954, he made the short move to Bury to link up with former United team mates, Stan Pearson and Henry Cockburn. An apprentice draughtsman during his early days at United, he returned to the profession, working in Manchester until his retirement. He died in January 1995.
