Biography: Schemmel had been a popular player at West Ham and had won their Player of the Year trophy in 2001/2. But a loss of form the following year saw him fall out of favour and ended with a move to the south coast. He made 12 appearances in blue but could not recapture his early success and returned home to France where he finished his career with Le Havre.
