Arnie Sidebottom

Birthplace: Shawlands, Barnsley

Position: Defender

Biography: A fast bowler with Yorkshire and England, he was first handed his chance in the first team against Sheffield United in March 1973, as deputy for Steve James. But it wasn't until Jim Holton broke his leg in the 1974-1975 promotion winning season, when he played 12 games, that he was given a run of games in the first team. After winning promotion, he departed Old Trafford in January 1976 to join fourth division Huddersfield Town. His son, Ryan, has followed in his footsteps into the England cricket team, while he now coaches football and cricket at Woodhouse Grove School in West Yorkshire.
