Smith, George I played alongside George during our junior and senior school days in the 50s and 60s. In those days, he played inside right. Brian Turner inside left and myself centre-forward for West Gate Hill school in Newcastle. Great player

JOHN MCLOUGHLIN When I was a youngster in the early 70's, George had a sports shop in Marske by the Sea that I used to work in on Saturdays and on school holidays. Lovely bloke. His wife used to run the shop most of the time and they had a black labrador that used to sit in the back of the shop. Met a few of the Boro players through him at that time which was great as I was a Smoggie supporter.
