Stoddart, Terry I was at Heaton Grammar School, Newcastle on Tyne with Terry in Form 5B until we left in July 1948. As a schoolboy he was a tall and an exceptional two-footed player at right half. Went to Newcastle United in 1949 but never made a first team appearance so moved on to Darlington, then to York City and finally Poole Town. He never reached the top levels so many of us expected. Once when I ran into him on Newcastle, he told me that he was with Darlington but working for an insurance company in Newcastle. This was the mid 50s and long before big money days. One freezing February day in 1948 he blasted a ball at me from six yards and the square section leather lace split both my top and bottom lips. I have the scar evidence to this day. The old leather balls were like lead on a wet day!
