Biography: Having suffered two broken legs at a youngster at Nottingham Forest it is remarkable that Stone had a football career at all. Having missed a whole season, he recovered enough to earn a £5.5 million move to Aston Villa in 1999. When his manager John Gregory was fired and replaced by Graham Taylor he agreed to move to Pompey and immediately became an influential member of the team that won promotion to the Premiership. His three year deal expired in 2005 and new boss Alain Perrin allowed him to join Leeds United. He has since returned to his native north-east where he became a commentator for BBC Radio 5Live before joining the coaching staff at Newcastle United. In July 2010 he was promoted to reserve team assistant.manager .
