Summersby, Roy A great-though much underrated player in the Johnnie Byrne era. RIP

Summersby, Roy I played with Roy -I hasten to add as a cricketer! Roy kept fit in the summer playing for south london side KENODA (Kenington Oval District Association). My dad played with Roy and when I was home from school I played too. Roy was our opening fast bowler and a pivotal member of the team. Later we moved to Croyden and I enjoyed watching Roy and Johnny Byrne. A lot of footballers played cricket in the summer Kenoda had Dulwich Hamlet players too, all south london guys!

Summersby, Roy Roy was a visitor to my house sometimes as he was on friendly terms with my parents.I remember him well as he was a vrygood ballroom dancer as well. One of my memories of him was in the dying minutes of a4th Div league match at Selhurst with the score at 1-1 Palace were awarded a penalty at the holmesdale end.Such was the muddy state of the pitch the referee had to determine where the resulting penalty should be taken from which he did with the vocal assistance of the 5000 "referees" behind the goal and what a commotion it was.Only somebody with a cool head could possibly take the kick which Roy did to score and give "The Glaziers" a 2-1 victory. scored a spectacular goal v QPR on the volley beating Peter Wakeham from 25yards.Roy also scored 25 goals duri.ng the 60/61 season and helped enormously with getting promotion.I am sorry to hear that he has died RIP Roy and thank you.
