Thomas, William William Thomas was injured circa 1914. His brother in law obtained a position for him aboard the CPR liner "Empress of Ireland" with him as an assistant steward, as at that time, injured players were not paid.
The ship sank on its return voyage from Quebec to Liverpool, taking with it over 1000 lives, including William Thomas and his brother in law, Hector Cope.
