Born: 1898

Birthplace: Epsom

Position: Forward

Biography: A left-winger who was converted into a centre-forward with impressive results. Bagged 25 goals in 30 games in his first season, only to find himself dropped at the start of his second season following the signing of Syd Elliott from Fulham. When he did get a run of games, he found the net nine times in 12 games. This was apparently not enough to secure a starting place and when he didn't get his position back he departed for Norwich City, in May 1929. Was manager of Dartford for a season before returning to Stamford Bridge as a scout. This proved to be his forte and he went on to become a leading talent spotter who was narrowly beaten to signing a young Duncan Edwards. He later discovered future stars Jimmy Greaves, Terry Venables and Bobby Tambling. Ended his career scouting for Southampton and died in Epsom in August 1984 aged 86.
