Birthplace: Glasgow, Scotland

Position: Wing-half

Biography: Thompson played for Scottish junior club CarnoustiePanmure before joining Pompey's championship-winning teams of 1949 and 1950. He managed Worcester City and Exeter City and eventually returned to Fratton Park as caretaker after Freddie Cox's departure. Although he was not offered the job permanently he did work as George Smith's assistant before coaching in Holland Egypt. Lived in Portsmouth until his death on Boxing Day 1988.
