Biography: The Scottish goalkeeper was spotted playing for the army team during his national service by Ted Drake, who brought him to Chelsea from Clyde in 1952 for £5,000. He shared goalkeeping duties with Bill Robertson and played 16 games in the 1955 Championship winning season. By the time he left Stamford Bridge for Nottingham Forest, with whom he won an FA Cup winners' medal in 1959, he had kept 16 clean sheets in 59 appearances. He hung up his boots (and gloves) in 1961 and lived in Nottingham until his death in February 2009 aged 78. He had worked as a social worker in the area until his retirement.
