Biography: Tindall was a London born centre forward who played at the highest level for Chelsea and West Ham, as well as proving to be a talented County level cricketer. He joined Pompey at a point where he was planning to retire from the game. However, an inspired switch of position, to defence, meant that he continued to play successfully for another five years. It also gave his first taste of coaching and management. By the time he finally left the club he had played all over the field (including ten minutes in goal), been captain, coach and had two spells as manager. He later emigrated to Perth in Australia, became their State Director of Sport and won the Western Australia Citizen of the Year for Sport. Ron Tindall
